Cross-Country Road Trip!

As you’re reading this, I’m not sure where I am, but it’s probably somewhere west-by-northwest of Virginia. I’m taking a road trip across America! My last cross-country road trip was more than 20 years ago, with my mother. I’ve always wanted to do it again. And now, for pretty much the first time since then, it’s a good season in my life for it. So I’ve loaded up Mercy B, my silver sedan, with clothes, low-carb snacks, cameras, and books, and I’m off! I have a loose itinerary, but the glory of the solo road trip is to blow with the wind, so who knows where I’ll end up? I do want to check out the five states in the contiguous 48 I’ve not visited yet: North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon. Conveniently they’re all connected! And I’m excited to start out in a northerly direction, because I’m optimistic that the tulips will be unfolding along with my trip. And I do want to stay connected with you all. Lord willing, I’ll be posting here on the blog about once a week, daily on Instagram, randomly throughout the day on twitter, and monthly in my newsletter. I hope you’ll keep me company along the adventure!

I fell in love with travel on a trip to Mexico when I was nine years old. Since then, I’ve travelled the globe from Israel to El Salvador. I’ve skied the Swiss Alps and hiked national parks like Acadia, Zion, Shenandoah, and Virgin Islands. I’ve marvelled at masterpieces in the Prado, the Uffizi, the Huntington, and the National Gallery of Art. I’ve stayed in a cabin on a mountaintop in Norway and on a kibbutz along the Sea of Galilee, and been kicked out of the Ritz at the Place Vendôme. I’ve taken cooking classes from New England to the Caribbean, and watched a chef prepare traditional shakshuka in the kitchen of his restaurant in Tel Aviv. I weave historical research and my personal experiences together in writing this blog. I hope you find it helpful. Read more …
