The personal-finance site WalletHub recently ranked all 50 states by 26 fun factors, ranging from beach quality to casinos per capita.
And the winner is California, which placed first in number of restaurants, fitness centers, and movie and performing-arts theaters per capita.
Florida came in second, tying Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Michigan for number of marinas per capita.
Nevada, a personal favorite of mine thanks both to Las Vegas and the state’s spectacular scenery, placed third.

But not everyone measures fun the same way, so it’s worth taking WalletHub’s findings with a grain of salt. Coming in dead last was West Virginia, where I’ve enjoyed rafting and tubing on the Shenandoah River, hiked at Harper’s Ferry National Historic Park, and even seen George Washington’s outdoor bathtub in Berkeley Springs.
