Lessons from the Past

The Federal Farmer wrote his third “anti-federalist” letter, in part, to warn that internal taxes would require numerous congressional ordinances, regulations that would undermine state laws, to predict that so many laws would support a spoils system, patronage that rewards political cronies, and to argue that so much power should not be given to an imperfectly organized government, one that didn’t deserve trust.
