Subway has created an uproar by excluding home-schooling families from a creative writing contest.
But a look at the fine print reveals that no one is eligible for the contest, unless, of course, there really is a country known as the Untied States. The eligibility statement reads:
Contest is open only to legal residents of the Untied States who are currently over the age of 18 and have children who attend elementary, private or parochial schools that serve grades PreK-6. No home schools will be accepted.
So it’s not just home-schoolers; no one who lives outside the Untied States may win the Athletic equipment, Scholastic Gift Bastket [sic], or other prizes.
And these people presume to judge writing.
