The Gale from the North

On April 19, 1775, embattled farmers of the Colony of Massachusetts Bay fired the shots heard ’round the world at Lexington. Two days later, Lord Dunmore, the royal governor of Virginia, had the gunpowder removed from the Public Magazine in Williamsburg, leaving the colonists defenseless. Then as Virginia’s delegates prepared to travel to Philadelphia for the Continental Congress, Governor Dunmore planned to stop them.
