On Monday Sen. Vitter issued a statement saying he had “received forgiveness from God and my wife” for his “very serious sin”. I hope that his statement is correct and honest.
Strangely, The New York Times is covering the Vitter story from the angle of its potential negative impact on former Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign, of which Sen. Vitter is Southern chairman. Now, we’re all aware of The City’s megalomaniac belief that everything is about The City. But this is a stretch.
Mr. Giuliani is unrepentant about his own adultery. Anyone who truly cherishes the sanctity of matrimony would never support him in the first place.
