The Federal Page of this morning’s Washington Post laments “The Decline of GOP Moderates”. Eight of the 109th Congress’s 20 most liberal House Republicans were defeated last month, along with Lincoln Chafee in the Senate, in the acceleration of a decades-long trend.
The Post reports, “To some moderate Republicans, the message of the Nov. 7 election was clear: The only path back to the majority is through the political center.”
Huh? What kind of irrational interpretation is that? This doesn’t work, so we have to try more of it. Clearly, these people have been in Congress too long, and it’s a good thing that many of them won’t be back.
If the Republicans are serious about retaking Congress, the way to do it is to run candidates who can win–conservatives.
